Retire-IT
Explaining IT recycling firm, Retire-ITs unique business model to customers and business partners
Kyle Marks, the founder of Retire-IT, had an interesting dilemma. On one hand he had an incredibly uncommon approach to the problem of how to safely and securely recycle corporate IT hardware. On the other hand, because of the uniqueness of his system, he needed an equally unique way to explain the system so that corporate IT managers understood this new process.
The problem
Whenever you devise a way to improve a process by doing something differently, you run the risk of people not grasping how your approach works precisely because they’re not accustomed to it being done that way. This is even more of a problem when your business model is based on people seeing that your solution is better.
Retire-IT’s approach virtually guaranteed corporate IT managers that recyclers would be held accountable, employee theft of retired equipment would be a thing of the past, and that data security risks, environmental concerns, and unnecessary costs are removed from the process of IT disposal.
But, how do you get busy IT executives to grasp a complex concept quickly?
The solution
We started by boiling down Retire-IT’s process into the simplest terms. After talking with Kyle, and brainstorming ideas about what was most important for potential customers to understand, we came up with a step-by-step diagram that walks IT managers through the process. With the business model explained, we went on to produce two more diagrams to explain some of the intricacies and benefits to customers and partners who wanted to drill down to more specific information.
